Engineering Interests
- Cycling: I enjoy the simplicity of traditional bicycles. I have done bicycle maintenance since the 7th grade. When in college, I got to work as a mechanic, then as the manager of the ASUW bike shop on the UW campus. Got lots of experience: fixing problems, ordering parts, dealing with difficult customer situations, and going on test rides. When I mention "traditional", what I mean is no frills. Even though one may argue that suspension and shocks and index shifting are nice features, the beauty of a no frills set up is the bare essense of the bike. If you take the component away, will the bike still function. If no, it is essential. If yes, don't need.
- Computer Programming: My masters thesis involved writing code for computer 3D simulator for forest harvesting vehicles. I really like the debugging part of programming. Either my own code or others'. The logic, the care, the abstraction, and the attention to detail is fun. I wish I could do more of it.
