BCC Exercise Science
Information for Exercise Science Major Transfer Students

In Washington, the following schools offer degrees in Exercise Science or a related field: Central, Eastern, and Western Washington Universities, Washington State University, Seattle Pacific University and Bastyr University. If you intend to use this degree to apply to a graduate program in physical therapy check the specific prerequisites for the PT programs to which you intend to apply.

College coursework required by most exercise science programs
Two quarters of chemistry: BCC CHEM& 121,131 or 161,162 for Bastyr (Prior to Su '08, CHEM 101,102,140,150)
Three quarters of Biology: BCC BIOL& 160, 241, 242 or 211, 212 for WSU (Prior to Su '08, BIOL 101,260,261,201,202)
One quarter of speech: BCC CMST& 101or 220 (Prior to Su '08, SPCH 100 or 220)
One quarter of nutrition: BCC NUTR 130

General Education: Beyond the specific prerequisites, a broad liberal arts background is encouraged, including English composition, humanities and social sciences. Most programs require one or more quarters of psychology.

Math/Physics: A college level math class is required; check individual programs for the specific class. For the pre-PT track at WWU PHYS114, 115, 116 are required, as are CHEM& 161, 162, 163. The prerequisite for Physics 114 is MATH& 142.

The above sample schedule provides 90 credits and does not include any lower math or English classes needed to bring skills up to college level. Math and English placement assessments are required prior to enrolling in math or English courses. Therefore, classes may need to be taken during summer quarters in order to complete the AAS degree in a timely manner. In addition, foreign language admission requirements of the baccalaureate schools need to be satisfied if not previously done in high school.
